Introduction
- It is the process of laying brick mortar with mortar joints to form a wall or any other structural unit.
- It is a construction of wall with uniform unit laid in a courses with mortar joints.
Types of bond in Brick masonry
Bond is define as the process of overlapping of brick in alternate course to alter the vertical joints of brick.
Type
of bond in brick masonry :
1. Stretcher bond
2.
Header bond
3.
English bond
4. Flemish bond
1. Stretcher Bond :
- In these types of bond, all the brick are arrange in a stretcher course.
- Stretcher is a longer face of a brick.
- Standard size of stretcher (230* 47) mm in NS but (190*90) mm in IS.
- It is used – full for the construction of half brick thick partition wall or non – load wall.

2. 2. Header Bond :
- In this type of bond, all brick are arranged in header course.
- Header is a shorter face of brick.
- Standard size of header is (105*47) mm in NS but ( 90*90)mm in IS.IS.
- It is use-full for the construction of one brick thick wall or load bearing wall.

3. 3. English Bond:
- English bond is alternate course consist of stretcher and header.
- It is consider as the strongest bond so is a commonly used for the construction all the types of wall.

4. Flemish Bond:
• In
this bond, each course comprise of alternates header and stretcher.
• Alternate
course starts with header and stretcher to break, vertical joints queen closer
is required if the bond is start with header.
• Every header is centrally supported in the stretcher below it.
• It need a greater skill. It gives more plenty appearance but not as stronger as English bond.
• It is used for the construction of all the types of wall.
• The alternate courses start with a stretcher and a header.
